Effective Tips for Installing Panels in Buildings

One of the most significant advantages of using (Magnesium Oxide) (MGO) boards is the ease and simplicity of their installation process. By following the basic tips discussed in this article, (MGO) panels can be easily installed in various parts of residential and industrial buildings.

The easy and hassle-free installation feature of (MGO) panels, along with other special features such as resistance to moisture, mold, and insect damage, has increased their use in various industries.

(MGO) panels are highly durable and fire-resistant due to their average density. They are used in the construction of various thermal and acoustic insulations. Often, (MGO) panels are used as a substitute for particleboard, plywood, or cement-bonded particleboard. Various types of (MGO) panels can be produced with color, tile, coating, laminate, and other types of coatings.

Considering all the advantages and uses of (Magnesium Oxide) panels, it is better to know the basic tips related to their installation to enjoy their benefits through proper and suitable installation

How to Install (Magnesium Oxide) Panels

Since (Magnesium Oxide) (MGO) panels have different chemical composition and physical properties compared to other prefabricated panels, they undoubtedly differ in the installation process. However, if you want to install (MGO) panels yourself, you should pay attention to the following:

  • The tools required for installing (MGO) panels are the same tools used for installing cladding, partitions, or any drywall. When using (MGO) panels for tile substrate, you can easily install (MGO) panels with the same tile tools. Generally, (MGO) boards can be installed on both wooden and steel frames. However, you should pay attention to how to install them in the edge sections. The screws must be at least 12 mm away from the edges and 50 mm away from the corners.
  • The board can be directly attached and firmly secured to wooden supports. It is better to use a nail gun to prevent the possible cracking of the boards. However, if you use screws, the size and length of the screws really depend on the thickness of the board.
  • When using (MGO) boards, be careful to handle them properly, as they may come apart if not properly used. It is recommended that at least two people move the boards together for transportation. If transporting a single panel, it is recommended to keep the sheet vertically. It is also important to read the manufacturer’s instructions and installation guide thoroughly.

How to store (magnesium oxide) board

(Magnesium oxide) boards should be stored in a dry and ventilated building, in a horizontal position and without contact with excessively moist surfaces. If the board will be kept outside of a building for a period of time (such as on a construction site), it should be stored under a shelter to protect it from direct rainfall.

Carry the board in a completely vertical position, and avoid any mechanical damage or surface wetting. Moist boards should be dried before installation if necessary. Prior to installation, if needed, cut the board with a knife or circular saw. If there is dust on the surface, clean it off.

How to install (magnesium) panel on interior walls

There are two methods for installing (magnesium oxide) ((MgO}) panels: direct installation or installation using a frame. In the direct method, the panels are installed directly onto the surface, while in the frame method, the panels are installed inside a frame and then the frame is attached to the main surface.

For internal connections, the installation of (MgO) board should be done during the finishing work and wiring, and the indoor temperature should not be less than 15 degrees Celsius. Before installation, the (MgO) board should be stored inside the house for at least 3 days.

When installing (MgO) panels, the vapor permeability properties of materials should be considered. The (MgO) board should be fixed to the profile system (framing) using screws with pre-drilled holes or self-drilling screws with countersunk heads.

For interior walls in dry areas with proper ventilation, the distance between the panels should be between 4 and 5 millimeters, and in humid areas and outside of them, it should be between 5 and 6 millimeters. The distance between the end of the (MgO) board and the cavity structures (in adjacent locations such as floors, walls, and ceilings) should be 6-10 millimeters.

Using appropriate fillers based on the environment in (MgO) panel installation

For complete filling in “dry” and “normal” condition rooms, it is better to use gypsum-based (gypsum-polymer) fillers. For complete filling of surfaces in “moist” environments, polymer and cement-polymer fillers should be used. For filling building facades, use only cement-based fillers with reinforcing additives modified with polymers.

Final Word

As you can see, installing (magnesium oxide) panels is easier compared to other gypsum and cement panels. However, to make it easier for you to purchase and choose quality )MGO) panels, it is better to buy directly from reputable and main suppliers without any intermediaries. One of the major manufacturers of )magnesium oxide)panels is Atlas Adrin Mandegar, which designs and produces various pre-fabricated, decorative, and wall sandwich panels from )magnesium oxide)panels with the best quality.
